Simple Rasam


Ingredients:

Rasam powder - 2tbs
Tamarind - 1 small lemon size
Salt - 1tbs
Chilly powder - 2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves / Cilantro - 3 springs

For tempering:

Mustard seeds - 1tsp
Split black gram  - 1tsp
Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Whole red chillies -2
Garlic cloves - 3
curry leaves - 2 sprigs
Oil - 1tbs


  •   Add 3 cups of water in deep bottom pot , add rasam powder and bring it to boil .

  •  Put tamarind in microwave safe bowl add 1/2 cup of water to it and microwate ot for 1 minute and extract the juice for it  .Repeat it until all the juice is extracted .

  • Add the juice to the boiling mixture .

  • Add salt , chilli powder , turmeric to it .

  • Once it comes to boil , adjust the salt and chilli powder according to taste .

  • Heat some small skillet on medium heat by adding oil .Once the oil is hot add all the mustard seeds , split black gram , jeera . Once they start popping , add crushed garlic cloves and curry leaves . fry them for few seconds and add the tempered micture to the boiling water mixtue .

  • let it simmer on low flame for 10 minutes.

  • Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.

  • Serve it with hot steaming rice and ghee .
